The NJ Parental Notification Law passed by overwhelming majorities in 1999 and was signed into law. It was challenged by Planned Parenthood of Central New Jersey and a number of NJ abortion providers. The NJ Parental Notification Act was originally held constitutional by a NJ Superior Court. Planned Parenthood et al subsequently appealed the decision to the NJ Supreme Court. The NJ Supreme Court reversed the decision of the lower court and found the Parental Notification Act to be unconstitutional. New Jersey Right to Life led the effort to pass the parental notification law and also filed a friend of the court brief in support of the law.
