LAKEWOOD - Police in Lakewood say they have arrested a receptionist and charged her with performing illegal abortions out of a doctor's office.
Investigators say Liza Berdiel performed the procedures at the doctor's office of Dr. Flavius Thompson, where Berdiel worked as a receptionist. According to police, Berdiel was administering abortion-inducing drugs to women despite not having a license. Authorities also say Berdiel was collecting approximately $500 per procedure.
Berdiel has been released on bail. Prosecutors say they have identified four women who received abortions illegally by the receptionist. They are expecting to identify more as the investigation continues.
