President-elect Donald Trump did remarkably well in New Jersey much to the dismay of many Democrats. As of Wednesday evening, Vice President Kamala Harris leads Donald Trump by only 5 percentage points with 93% of the vote in. (Source: Associated Press.)
The most recent results indicate the margin Harris won by is 200,000 votes out of nearly four million total cast. To compare, Trump lost New Jersey by 14 points in 2016 to Hillary Clinton and 16 points in 2020 to Biden.
New Jersey has not seen these numbers since the 1992 presidential race when George H.W. Bush ran against Bill Clinton. “Donald Trump had the best GOP performance in the reliably blue state in a generation,” noted a post-election story by Politico entitled, “New Jersey might be a swing state now.”
”Trump’s comeback was widespread — not only tearing down the Blue Wall and recapturing Sun Belt states, but also making gains in Democratic-leaning New York and deep-blue Massachusetts.
But few places turned as far to the right as New Jersey,” noted the authors.
Like voters in other states, the most important matter on the minds of New Jersey voters was the economy and keeping our families safe, two issues among many that the Biden-Harris administration failed miserably to act on and improve. Instead of addressing these issues, the Harris-Walz team shamefully focused incessantly on championing unlimited abortions up to the moment of birth which many voters found repugnant and extreme.
This strategy clearly backfired on them and should be a lesson to Democrats in New Jersey and on the national level to stop their toxic obsession with abortion.
Throughout their time in office, President-elect Trump and Senator J.D. Vance have promoted policies that protected the lives of both unborn children and their mothers from unlimited abortions. That is why we were happy to endorse them.
We are hopeful that President-elect Trump’s groundswell of support—commentators on both sides are calling it a landslide —and enthusiasm among voters will carry over to next year’s gubernatorial and state assembly elections. But, for now, one thing is for certain.
New Jersey is now a purple state thanks to Donald J. Trump.
